“And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love”

(1 Corinthians 13:13)

The words of Paul the Apostle summarize the whole essence of the Christian life in three words: faith, hope, and love. These are the eternal virtues that time cannot fade, the changing world cannot take away, and that lead us to God. Yet the Apostle sets one of them above the others, saying, “And the greatest of these is love.”

Why is love the greatest? Because God Himself is love. Faith leads us to God, hope strengthens us in times of difficulty, and love unites us with God and makes us more like Him. Without love, even the greatest knowledge is empty, the most beautiful words are fruitless, and the greatest sacrifice has no meaning.

Today the world speaks often about love, yet it is frequently reduced to nothing more than emotions. The Gospel teaches us that true love is sacrifice, forgiveness, patience, and service. Love is not expressed only through words, but through our daily actions—with a kind word, a forgiving heart, a helping hand, and a compassionate gaze. It is this kind of love that transforms families, strengthens communities, and heals human relationships.

In our time, many people lose hope because their faith grows weak and their hearts become hardened. Yet wherever love lives, hope is born, and faith is renewed. A loving person does not think only of themselves. They see the pain of their neighbor, share their burdens, and become an instrument of God's peace.

Let us ask ourselves: Is our faith expressed through love? Does our hope strengthen those around us? Do our words and actions show that we are disciples of Christ? As Christ said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

May these words become the standard of our lives. And let us pray that God will fill our hearts with living faith, unwavering hope, and love that overcomes all things, so that our lives may become a living reflection of the love of Christ, and that through our presence, others may experience the peace of God and His infinite love.
