āConsider your own call, brothers and sistersā (1 Corinthians 1:26)
These profound words of Paul the Apostle invite us to pause for a moment and ask ourselves: Who am I, and why has God called me into this world? The Christian life is not simply about bearing the name of a believer; it is about recognizing the holy calling God has given us and living faithfully according to that calling.
God created each one of us with a purpose. We were not born by accident, nor do we live by chance. Our life is a gift of God's love, and our calling is the path of fulfilling His will. Some are called to serve within the family, others in society, and others in the Church, but our common calling is the sameāto live as disciples of Christ and to bear witness to His love through our lives.
Today, the world teaches people to measure themselves by their success, their possessions, or their position. The Gospel, however, gives us a different standard. In the eyes of God, a person's greatness is measured not by what they possess, but by their faith, humility, and love. God will not ask how well known we were among people, but how faithful we were to the calling He entrusted to us.
Very often we desire to have someone else's gifts or to follow someone else's path, forgetting that God has given each of us unique gifts. The Christian calling is not a competition but a life of service. When a person understands that life is a gift from God, they begin to use that gift for the good of others and for the glory of God.
As Christians, our calling is not limited to being present in church. It continues in our families, our workplaces, our relationships, and in the choices we make every day. Every kind word, every act of forgiveness, every work of mercy, and every sincere prayer is part of fulfilling our calling.
Therefore, let us ask ourselves: Are we living in a way that is worthy of a disciple of Christ? Does our life bear witness to His presence? May the Lord grant us the wisdom to recognize our calling, the faithfulness to fulfill it, and the humility always to remember that the greatest honor of our lives is to belong to Christ.
