St. James Armenian Apostolic Church of Los Angeles traces its beginnings to 1942, when its first parish assembly was held in a converted residence on West Adams Boulevard. As the Armenian community in Los Angeles grew after World War II, the parish expanded steadily, eventually moving to its present site on Slauson Avenue. The current sanctuary was consecrated in 1971, following a groundbreaking ceremony officiated by His Holiness Vazken I in 1968. Over the decades, St. James has continued to serve as a spiritual, cultural, and community home for generations of Armenian families through worship, education, fellowship, and service.
