Encouraging Campers in Faith and Fellowship

On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church, visited Hye Camp at the Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian Campgrounds in Dunlap, California, where he spent the day with campers and staff, sharing in prayer, fellowship, and recreation.

During his visit, the Primate gathered the campers for a prayer service, offering words of encouragement and reminding them that Hye Camp is more than a summer destination—it is a sacred place where faith is strengthened, lifelong friendships are formed, and Armenian Christian identity is nurtured. Following the prayer service, Archbishop Derderian joined the campers in a variety of outdoor sports and activities, delighting in their enthusiasm and fostering a joyful spirit of camaraderie.

Reflecting on the significance of Hye Camp, Archbishop Derderian remarked, "The serenity of these sacred campgrounds draws each of us closer to God's wondrous creation, inviting our hearts to experience His abiding presence through the beauty of nature. Here, surrounded by His magnificent handiwork, our young people grow not only in friendship and knowledge, but also in faith. The heartfelt prayers offered by our children become a source of spiritual strength and inspiration for us all, reminding us that the pure faith of our youth is one of God's greatest blessings to His Church."

For generations of Armenian youth, Hye Camp has offered an unforgettable experience—one that deepens their faith, strengthens their connection to Armenian heritage, builds lifelong friendships, and inspires an appreciation for God's magnificent creation.
