TOSSED INTO THE AIR: BY DIRAN AVAGYAN

Being charged by a bison is a rare incident, like the one that recently occurred at Bridge Bay Campground in Yellowstone National Park. As we empathize with the 65-year-old grandfather who was injured, many of us can also relate to the feeling of being tossed into the air by life's unexpected blows. Sudden. Fast. Out of nowhere. Scary. Painful.

With all the changes taking place around us and across the globe on a daily basis, we find ourselves living in increasingly volatile times, where almost anything can happen at any moment. A friend recently told me that someone hit his parked car and fled while he was at work. Another friend's flight was canceled at the last minute, ruining his vacation plans. Someone I know, who was still repaying student loans, discovered that as of July 1, his repayment plan had been discontinued, forcing him into a less affordable option.

When we are suddenly tossed into the air, even for a split second, it can feel as though our entire life flashes before our eyes. We do not know how we are going to land—whole or broken, standing or lying on the ground. Yet, regardless of the outcome, once we finally land, the fear and anxiety end there on the ground, for we have experienced both the flight and the fall.

May we all land on our own two feet as whole persons, no matter how high life tosses us into the air.
