Independence Day Celebration With Reflections Of The Beginning Of Our Diocese

In 1927, just as our diocese was being formed, the Church community in Los Angeles held a 4th of July Independence Day celebration at Elysian Park (Los Angeles). The attendees were survivors of the Armenian Genocide, now assembled in gratitude to the country which opened its doors to them.

On the 250th anniversary of American Independence, the photo will be “updated” by posing, clergy and community, with the St. Leon Cathedral as the backdrop. The photo will be taken on July 4, 2026 at St. Leon Cathedral in Burbank at 9AM followed by a thanksgiving prayer.
