ABP. HOVNAN DERDERIAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND PROVIDED SUPPORT TO FAMILIES OF MARTYRED AUA STUDENTS

Dr. Kris Mirzayan, member of the Diocesan Council and a visiting professor at American University of Armenia (AUA), was overwhelmed with shock and grief at the loss of brilliant young minds and heroes of Armenia and Artsakh falling in the battlefield. It was especially heartbreaking for him to learn about the martyrdom of six talented students from AUA.

Dr. Mirzayan has been up close and personal with many of these students and has seen their potential as the bright Future of Armenia. “It is extremely hard for me to see my students martyred or returning as wounded warriors.  I asked some friends and family to help me raise funds for their families. The collected funds so far have been close to $6000.00.  More has been pledged and on its way,” said Dr. Mirzayan in a telephone interview.

Additionally, Dr. Mirzayan serves on the Board of Abp. Hovnan Derderian Scholarship Fund. When his colleagues learned about the charitable act of kindness, they all stepped up to the plate to contribute. His generosity became a source of emulation for the Board. On November 5, 2020, the Abp. Hovnan Derderian Scholarship Fund held its regular Zoom meeting, where further assistance to the families of martyred and wounded soldiers was discussed. The Board members were joined by Ashot Ghazaryan, AUA Vice-President, who provided detailed information on how to coordinate the help. The Abp. Hovnan Derderian Scholarship Fund will make a significant donation to AUA, after the university finalizes its procedures and protocols of distributing the funds
