DEMIRGIAN SCHOLARSHIP

Archpriest Fr. Arshag Khatchadourian Honored by AACCWD
Published - 14 October 2016

The Association of Armenian Church Choirs of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America (AACCWD) honored Archpriest Father Arshag Khatchadourian on October 7, 2016 with an artistic program and a subsequent reception.

The respected priest has had an integral role within the AACCWD since its establishment and has been a vocal advocate for our mission in supporting and promoting the teaching of sacred music, encouraging choirs to learn and adhere to the liturgical rites, cannons, and doctrines of the Armenian Church, and most importantly to promote the appreciation and use of music.

The evening commenced with the welcoming remarks by AACCWD Central Council member Mrs. Lucy Tashjian which was followed by words of appreciation by Chairman Mr. Sevag Derderian. The biography of the honoree was read by his daughter Ms. Ani Azniv Khatchadourian.

The artistic portion of the program featured vocal performances by Nektarine Chilyan who delighted the audience with beautiful performances of “Srpoohi Mariam Vosgi Sapor” arranged by the honoree, himself and Hayastan by the world renowned Armenian composer Komitas.

Remarks were also delivered by Deacon Dr. Sarkis Mesrobian who reflected on the accomplishments of the merited priest and his influence in the life of the parish family of St. James Armenian Church of Los Angeles where he had served as pastor for decades.

The evening also featured choral performances by the St. Leon (Srbots Ghevontiants) Armenian Cathedral Choir directed by Mrs. Alenoush Yeghnazar.

A special award of recognition was presented to Fr. Arshag by the Central Council of the Association of Armenian Church Choirs of the Western Diocese.

The Primate delivered the benediction wherein he commended Father Arshag’s leadership in the pastoral as well as the choral life of the Armenian Church. Archbishop Derderian lauded the initiative of the AACCWD to honor the merited priest and conveyed his genuine wishes to Fr. Arshag and his family.
