SUNDAY OF THE UNJUST JUDGE - FIFTH SUNDAY OF THE GREAT LENT - March 15, 2026
Published - 13 March 2026

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, preserve in prayer.” (Romans 12:12)

The Sunday of the Unjust Judge during Great Lent draws our attention to a profound Gospel parable about an unjust judge and a widow. The woman repeatedly came to the judge, pleading with him to grant her justice. Although the judge did not want to listen to her for a long time, the widow’s persistence and continual appeals finally compelled him to act and give her justice.

This parable first of all speaks to us about perseverance. The widow did not lose hope, she did not remain silent, and she did not stop presenting her request. She believed that justice would eventually prevail. It is precisely this steadfast faith that Christ presents to us as an example.

Through this parable, the Lord teaches us about the importance of prayer. Prayer is not merely words; it is a living relationship with God. When a person prays, he opens his heart and entrusts his pain, his hope, and his life to God. Yet very often we want quick answers, and when we do not receive them immediately, we begin to lose heart. This parable reminds us that true faith is patient and persistent.

The widow’s determination teaches us that prayer should be constant. When a person prays every day, his heart begins to change. Prayer is not only asking; it is also trusting that God hears us, even when we do not yet see the answer.

In our time, the world is filled with anxiety, haste, and noise. Many people forget about prayer or think that it is meaningless. Yet prayer is what gives a person strength in difficulties, brings peace to the heart, and fills the soul with hope.

The parable of the judge and the widow reminds us that if even an unjust judge eventually heard her request, how much more will our Heavenly Father hear the prayers of His children, for God is never indifferent to our voice.

May this Sunday always remind us of the great power of prayer. When a person never ceases to turn to God, his heart becomes filled with hope, faith, and inner peace. If the widow’s persistent plea could move an unjust judge, how much more will our Heavenly Father hear the prayers of His children. Therefore, let us never lose heart and never silence our prayer, but continue to turn to God with faith. For the heart that continually calls upon the Lord in prayer will ultimately find His mercy and His justice.
