Community's Elderly take part in Blessing of the Grapes Service
Published - 15 August 2025

On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the serene halls of the Ararat Home of Los Angeles were filled with prayer and thanksgiving as the Diocesan Primate, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, together with clergy of the Western Diocese, visited the elderly residents to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption as well as conduct the traditional Blessing of the Grapes service.

The warm and heartfelt gathering reflected the Armenian Apostolic Church’s cherished tradition, marking the season of harvest and God’s bountiful gifts. The clergy shared time with the residents, offering words of encouragement, love, and spiritual care.

During the visit, the clergy conveyed the profound significance of the Feast of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God, one of the most beloved celebrations in the Armenian Church. They reminded the residents that this feast is not only a commemoration of the Virgin Mary’s ascent into heaven, but also a reminder of her maternal intercession, guiding the faithful toward Christ. Following the service, the Archbishop and clergy blessed the grapes, symbolizing the first fruits of the season, and offered heartfelt prayers for the health, peace, and well-being of all present.
