The Christian Education Council of the Western Diocese chaired by Mrs. Gail Chelebian organized a successful Advent Workshop for the Sunday schools and their families. Held at the ballroom of Ararat Home, this year’s CEC workshop was the biggest to date, with eight parishes participating!
Representing the Diocesan Primate at the workshop was the Rev. Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan, Pastor of St. Leon (Srbots Ghevontiants) Armenian Cathedral, who opened the workshop with a prayer and a special message to the Sunday School students from Archbishop Derderian.
The workshop events were led by CEC Executive Board members Lynn, Natalie, Kamilia, and newest member, Lauren. Leading the children in singing Soorp Asdvadz, Der Voghormya, Jingle Bells, and Hayr Mer for the residents of the Ararat Home was former AACCWD Chair Sevag Derderian. To the delight of the audience Sevag’s mother Marian lent her beautiful singing voice to bring cheer to the residents.
This year’s lesson was centered on the “BELIEVE” theme, which encouraged the students to rely on and be inspired by the presence of God in their lives for strength and courage. The lessons were well received as students actively participated throughout the presentation.
On behalf of the CEC, Mrs. Gail Chelebian expressed her wholehearted gratitude to Derek and Adrine Ghookasian for their outstanding organizational efforts, dedication and belief in the mission of the CEC.
On Sunday, November 24, the CEC will lead the workshop at the Armenian Home for the 4 Central Valley Sunday schools in the San Joaquin Valley.
The CEC Board Members are grateful to all participants and volunteers for the love and support you put into our committee.
May you all have a blessed Thanksgiving!
