Sherly Avedian Presents an Informative Lecture on the Current State of the Armenian Churches in Iran
Published - 27 April 2018

Under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, on April 26, 2018, the Zorayan Museum of St. Leon Armenian Cathedral was the venue of an informative lecture on the current state of the Armenian Churches of Iran.

Sherly Avedian, the author of the highly informative book presented scholarly research which has spanned over seven years on the Armenian Churches and cemeteries of Iran.

Avedian works with the Iranian government to ensure the preservation and restoration of close to 450 Armenian Churches and monasteries. Because of Avedian’s leadership, some of the Armenian Monasteries have been included in UNESCO’s world heritage sites.

The soon to be published book provides an in-depth chronological timeline of Armenian Churches and monasteries in Iran and contains numerous photos of historical monuments of Armenian origin in Armenia’s neighboring country.

In his remarks, Archbishop Derderian commended Avedian’s resolute leadership and exemplary work in preserving the rich religious and cultural heritage of the Armenian people of Iran. As a token of his gratitude, the Primate presented a wooden replica of the Monastery of St. Thaddeus.

Sherly Avedian’s book will be published in Armenia later this year.
