For the Armenian-American community of the Western United States, the year 2017 is significant as it marks the 90th Anniversary of establishment of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America. We look back with pride on the dramatic progress, growth and development of the Western Diocese and its continuing mission to serve the spiritual and educational needs of our Armenian-American communities.

To celebrate the momentous occasion, a unique concert themed “The Armenian Church” was held at the John Wayne Performing Arts Center (Glendale High School Auditorium) on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 6PM. The sold-out event, held under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derdrerian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America and Mexico, featured performances by Grigor Ogaryan, Arman Nshanyan, Ani Christy, Razmik Mansuryan, Anahit Nersisyan, and Harout Pamboukjian and showcased the talents the children of the Armen Tigranyan Music School from Armenia, “Hayastan,” “the Sound of Music,” and “Yerevan” choirs as well as “Hamazkayin Ani” and “Heritage” dance ensembles.

Produced by Arman Nshanyan, the artistic director of the concert was Sirvard Kavoukjian, who was honored by the Diocesan Primate with the prestigious Archbishop’s Award in recognition of her selfless service to preserving the Armenian culture and identity in the Diaspora.
