On Sunday, August 24, 2025, the faithful of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church of Pasadena warmly welcomed the pastoral visit of the Diocesan Primate, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian.
Archbishop Derderian was the day’s celebrant and homilist, leading the congregation in prayer and reflection during the Divine Liturgy. In his homily, Archbishop Derderian referenced St. Mary’s song of praise and joy during her visit with her cousin Elizabeth, recognizing God's work in her life and His plan for salvation, proclaiming, “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant.” Reflecting on these sacred words, the Primate spoke about the humility, faith, and devotion of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose example continues to illuminate the path of Christian discipleship.
The Archbishop especially addressed mothers in the congregation, urging them to emulate the motherhood of St. Mary, who heeded God’s call, fulfilled His will, and dedicated her life to Christ. With words of blessing and encouragement, Archbishop Derderian called upon the faithful to strengthen their spiritual lives through service, humility, and steadfast faith, affirming the central role of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church in nurturing Armenian Christian identity in Pasadena.
