The Armenian Apostolic Church observed the Feast of St. Sarkis the Warrior on Saturday, February 16th. In observance of the Feast of the revered saint, on the following day, the Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St. Sarkis Armenian Church of Santa Clarita.
During the service, the Primate consecrated two icons with one depicting the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the other depicting St. Sarkis embracing his son St. Martiros. Archbishop Derderian also presided over the ceremonial Blessing of Madagh. His Eminence expressed his gratitude to the icons' donors and blessed Mr. Garbis Arslanyan and Mrs. Vergine Chouchanian for their God-pleasing deed.
His Eminence commended the pastoral ministry of the Rev. Fr. Serovbe Alanjian, encouraging the young priest to remain steadfast in his ancestral Christian Faith and to pray for God’s grace and wisdom in leading the flock of Christ on the path to righteousness. The Primate also commended the Parish Council and all auxiliary bodies of St. Sarkis Armenian Church for their loyalty in carrying out the mission of their beloved parish.
An Agape Meal was served in the church hall following the celebration of the Divine Liturgy. Mr. Ara Khachaturian, who has climbed Mount Ararat and Mount Everest, was in attendance and presented a photo of himself conquering Everest and Ararat to the Diocesan Primate.
Sunday and Saturday School students delighted the parishioners with their performances of sharagans and recitation of psalms. A moving poem was recited by Mrs. Aline Donigian. Capping off a memorable day, the parishioners departed with overjoyed spirits.
On May 18, 2019, St. Sarkis Armenian Church of Santa Clarita will celebrate its 10th Anniversary with a Gala Banquet.
