On Saturday, September 30, 2017 the Church of Saint Kevork in Portland celebrated the feast day of its patron saint, St. Kevork the Warrior. Over 40 pilgrims from Seattle’s Holy Resurrection Armenian Church led by their parish priest, V. Rev. Fr. Yeremia Abgaryan, made a pilgrimage to Saint Kevork Church.
The festivities began with the Rest Hour service led by visiting priest of St. Kevork Church, Fr. Nersess Hayrapetyan, and the Very Rev. Fr. Yeremia Abgaryan. Then, Deacon Hayk Tigranyan who was visiting from the Western Diocese, read the story of Saint Kevork after which, the Madagh was blessed and offered to the people and the festivities continued with singing and dancing in the church courtyard.
On the following day, Sunday, 1st of September, divine liturgy was offered by Fr. Nersess Hayrapetyan and the spiritual message was offered by Deacon Hayk Tigranyan about the importance of the Feast of the Holy Cross of Varak. Deacon Hayk also visited with the children of the church’s Armenian School in their classrooms and spoke to them about the significance of feast of Saint Kevork and taught the children how to properly make the sign of the cross.
