The AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian and AGBU Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Schools celebrated Founders’ Day and the 113th Anniversary of the AGBU on April 11, 2019 with a grandiose school-wide event. Held at the gymnasium of AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School in Canoga Park, more than 1,200 students, teachers, and parents, participated in the celebration. Among the dignitaries in attendance were AGBU Vice-President Mr. Sinan Sinanian and his spouse Angele and members of Board of Trustees the AGBU Western Region District.
Accompanied by Archpriest Fr. Shnork Demirjian, the Diocesan Primate His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian attended the event and encouraged the students to remain steadfast in their ancestral Christian Faith, to live prayerful lives and to firmly uphold in their hearts, the legacy of the visionary founders of the AGBU as well as the martyred saints of the Armenian Genocide. In his message addressed to the students, Archbishop Derderian spoke about the vitality of our Christian identity, to live a committed life in serving God, our ancestral land of Armenia and the Armenian Church, holding firm to our holy traditions, upholding the sanctity of the Christian family and above all, to become visionary citizens of the United States of America.
The keynote speaker of the day was Dr. Eric Esrailian, member of the Central Board of Trustees of the Armenian General Benevolent Union. His empowering words uplifted the spirituality of the students.
Following the presentation in the gymnasium, the students led a processional into the school’s courtyard where a miniature-scale replica of the Tsitsernakaberd Genocide Memorial Monument was created. All participants laid flowers at the monument as a means of paying homage to the martyred saints of the Armenian Genocide (1915-1923).
