Nerouj Event Attracts more than 200 Diocesan Youth

“Climb Higher Heights” was the theme of the unprecedented Nerouj event on February 11, 2018. Held under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America and Mexico the highly successful event brought together more than 200 youth who aimed to benefit from the mission of Nerouj of empowering the young generation through education, support and mentorship.

Brian Kabateck, Founding and Managing Partner of Kabateck Brown Kellner LLP was the moderator  in a panel discussion featuring panelists Raffi H. Kendirjian, (CRPC, First VP, Senior Financial Advisor of Merill Lynch Wealth Management); Andreas Hindoyan, M.D. (Interventional Cardiologist, Keck Medicine of USC); Jacqueline Chooljian, J. (Magistrate Judge, Central District of California); Joe Khajadourian, Songwriter and Music Producer – The Futuristics); and Wendy Bendoni, (Chair of Fashion Marketing at Woodbury University).  The professionals shared their life experiences offering and possible avenues of advancement in the fields of business, finance, medicine, law and others.

In her remarks, Silvana Vartanian, Chair of Nerouj expressed her deep gratitude and appreciation to the Primate for his leadership, inspiration, vision and belief in the promise of today’s youth.

Archbishop Derderian commended the Nerouj Committee for their outstanding organizational efforts in bringing professionals and youth together in a church setting. His Eminence thanked the moderator and all panelists for sharing their stories of success with the youth. “The year 2018 has been proclaimed as the Year of the Youth by His Holiness Karekin II, the Catholicos of All Armenians. At the Western Diocese we heed to the call of His Holiness by educating and inspiring the Diocesan youth. You are the future of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the leaders of tomorrow. I pray for your health and well-being. Strengthen your faith. Remember and honor your past and seize the present,” said Archbishop Derderian in part.


The mission of Nerouj is to lead the Armenian youth in reconnection with the Church through education, inner support and strengthening of the Armenian identity. Nerouj aims to keep the Armenian heritage alive and give purpose through inner spirituality and morality.
